A relatively recent development in the roofing community is thatched roofing tiles. These have made creating a thatch roof considerably easier. It used to be the case, that a thatch roof would require a skilled professional thatcher to undertake the roofing job. They would be required to thatch the roof correctly while working on it. These roofing tiles pre-thatch all of the straw or reeds into uniformed tiles, which then just need to be assembled on the roof like any other roofing tile. This has succeeded in greatly reducing the time and labour involved in correctly thatching a roof, which means that a thatch roof is considerably cheaper and therefore more achievable than what they would have been just twenty years ago. Thatched roofing has always had a place in the rural neighbourhoods of the UK, and it being more available is sure to mean an increase in its use in the hamlets and villages of England.
