Is your conservatory costing more in energy than it’s giving you back in functionality? If yes then it could be time for a new roof.
Since 2010 conservatories no longer need to be 75% translucent to adhere to building regulations giving more choice in terms of roof material.
You’ll need to decide what you want from your conservatory. Do you want an extension to your home or still a sheltered space offering all the natural light? What material to go for:
Glass – more expensive than polycarbonate but a better insulator and looks more sophisticated
Polycarbonate – cheaper option to glass, will still let in plenty of light but you may need a heater in the winter.
PVC – cheapest to buy and install. Requires little maintenance. Lasts up to 20 years. Could cost you more in energy bills with poor thermal performance.
Tiles – Changing your sunroom into an extension that is just as warm as the rest of your house.
